Wakanda Forever!: Black Panther Review

Marvel has done it again; another exquisitely developed addition to the superhero movie genre has people talking about Black Panther non-stop. Black Panther is not only the most recent Marvel movie, but in just 18 days, it’s become the ninth highest domestic box office earner of all time, taking in around $501 million.

Why is Black Panther the talk of the town? Black Panther is a very significant and important showcase because it is one of the more recent superhero screenplays to feature an almost entirely African American cast that has received this much publicity and that embraces diversity and emphasizes the vitality of being culturally aware.

Fans have been sounding off since the movie debuted, citing how Black Panther has given them heroes to look up to.

The spotlight shines on Black Panther, but the strongest, most empowering thing about the movie was the supporting roles played by strong women who enabled Black Panther to be the best king he could be. The independence radiated throughout all the women in this film and encourages all women to stick to their morals and refuse to be ordered around. Although, these Wakandan women are fierce, we cannot forget about one superhero who stars in many previous Marvel movies, Black Widow. She makes her appearances in many of the Marvel movies primarily due to the fact that she is a part of the avengers but sauve compelling nature and independence demonstrates that women can also hold a dominant role.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a storyline set up with several supporting individual superhero movies to come together to create a bigger and deeper story which this leads up to Captain America: Civil War, where the final moments of that movie leave you with a cliffhanger directing you towards Black Panther.

Personally, I’m a big Marvel movie geek, but Black Panther has done something so unique that no other superhero movie has ever been able to do before; this movie forced the ignorant and blind to see a new perspective that they’d never imagine. The current events that were intertwined with the characters spawned an effectiveness to the viewers, in a way we may not have been expecting; but it’s this blind sidedness that leaves an everlasting impression, not the caution.

Michael B. Jordan’s character, Erik “Killmonger” Stevens, was portrayed as the enemy in this movie. However, as the story continues to develop, you may find yourself agreeing with some of his logic and may even root for him at times.

The relationship that warmed the audience’s heart the most was between the protagonist T’Challa (Black Panther) and his sister, Shuri. They tease, joke  and look out for one another. T’Challa’s love for his family, Wakanda and way of life make him an ideal king…but can he hang onto the crown?

I would highly recommend that everyone sees Black Panther as it is a phenomenal movie that everyone can enjoy.
