Billie Eilish is making quite a name for herself in the world of music. At only 18 years old, this young artist took home five awards at the 2020 Grammys: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. This recent success, which places her as the youngest artist ever to win all four general-field categories at a single Grammy Awards show, is a clear indicator of her growing popularity among music listeners.

One of her fans, Madi Schneider (12), was not at all surprised to see Eilish sweep the Grammy Awards this year.

“[Her music] is beautiful. She has a very soft and unique voice that not many people, especially at her age, can do,” Schnieder said.

However, like some opinions out there, Schneider isn’t sure that Eilish should have won all five of these awards, considering she isn’t necessarily a pop artist. With other well-known pop artists being nominated, such as Ariana Grande and Lizzo, some are stating that these singers lacked the recognition that they also deserved for their musical achievements.

“The Best Pop Vocal Album shouldn’t have gone to [Eilish]. Her music is more indie than pop. Ariana Grande or Lizzo should have had [the Best Pop Vocal Album],” Schneider said.

At the end of the day, though, Eilish was the one who took home these awards. Her genre and overall style of music may not be for everyone, but is undeniably a new and unique addition to the music industry. With this much success at only age 18, the question to ask now is just how far this impressive artist will go from here.
