Due to the risks involved in having a multitude of people in the same room in 2020, LSE’s annual talent show “Nite of Knights” has been canceled.

Historically, Nite of Knights has been the variety show for Lincoln Southeast. It started as a fundraiser for band uniforms in 1955, and has run continuously until today. Usually, the show features all sorts of acts, from instrumentalists to step chain, all MC’d by upperclassmen in delightful stage plays.

Technically, a performance already happened this year, though in the previous academic year. It was MC’d by former LSE seniors Lisle Gustafson, Sadie Prenda, Harrison Hebb and Lydia Kingery, as well as current senior Allison FitzSimmons.

Due to the pandemic, and in an abundance of caution, the 2021 show is not going to happen next February. The biggest concern is keeping proper social distancing backstage.

 “It would be very difficult in the tight quarters we work with to maintain any level of social distancing,” Band teacher and historical organizer of the show Richard Metteer said. “When you’re backstage and the lights go out, it’s hard to see, and all of a sudden you’re running into someone.”

This is a real shame for seniors, whose last chance to participate has been closed off this year. Still, it’s better to keep everyone safe.
