On Saturday, Sept. 28, LSE’s Prasch Gym was transformed into an enchanting forest with flowers and vines trailing up the walls. Screeches of excitement filled the school and bright, neon lights blazed across the gym floor. Music filled the air as the DJ played songs that made students go wild. Students danced, jumped around, and created congo lines as the energy ramped up in the gym.
These were the sights and sounds that greeted attendees of LSE’s 2024 Homecoming dance: “A Pixie Hollow HOCO”. With many people from all grades and even other schools showing up, Prasch was loaded with a fun night in store.
This year specifically, LSE students mentioned a highlight of Homecoming was the music played; such as “FE!N” by Travis Scott and “HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan. Paper flowers, vines and mushrooms were also featured to set a mystical scene and served as fun backgrounds for students to take pictures.
Even though the Homecoming dance is one single event, all students have their own unique experiences leading up to Homecoming day. In a survey taken by 58 LSE students, respondents shared the different activities that they partook in before the dance. This included things such as getting nails and hair done, going out for dinner and taking pictures.
Sophomore Abigail Manley was prepared this year for Homecoming, getting ready even weeks prior.
“I got my nails done on Sunday, and then on Wednesday I [got] my hair done,” Manley said. She said she had to work on Homecoming day, but was able to get home to curl her hair and do her makeup before the dance.
Many other students also have specific schedules to go through before Homecoming occurs to prepare such as a particular group on a structured schedule. They have to put in a lot of work on and before Homecoming day to make things run well during the dance while glamming up the school with decorations. This group is members of LSE’s Student Council (STUCO).
STUCO had to run on a little bit of a different schedule on Homecoming day. A senior STUCO member, Matilda Plugge said, “We have to be here at 10 a.m. to about 2 p.m., setting up Homecoming, then we have to be back here by 7:30 p.m. to be able to make sure nothing has fallen down, and make sure everything will go smoothly for everyone else at the school.”
In all, Homecoming 2024 was an exciting event with all of the bright lights, music hits, pretty decorations, and the fun with friends that it brought. Through all people’s hard work and preparation for the dance, it was easy to see that things turned out to be a success in the end.
