Senior Justin Barger came up with the idea his Sophomore year and decided to go for it.
Barger’s idea took off last year when he found a sponsor to start Quidditch Club. This year, 75 students signed up for the club and it has grown to be one of the most popular clubs at Southeast.
Now, you may be asking, how exactly do you play Quidditch if you can’t fly?
Simple– the whole game takes place while running with a broomstick. The game is broken down into four main positions: Beaters, Chasers, one Keeper, and one Seeker. The Beaters throw balls at people in replacement of the bats used in the original game, the Chasers try and get the Quaffle through the hoop, the Sneakers try and catch the Snitch, and the Snitch tries not to get caught. If you catch the Snitch you win 150 points, which usually ends the game.
The game may sound confusing at first, but students seemed to have gotten the hang of it and look forward to third period during club day.
“It combines my love for Harry Potter and my competitive nature,” said the excited two year member, Cole Schinstock.
