You may have seen homecoming posters around the hallways starting to go up. But this is only the beginning. The Student Council Advertising Committee, who designs and displays all the Homecoming posters, have a lot in store for the student body.
“We try to change it up,” said senior Corina Marsh. She is a part of the advertising committee for Student Council and said that they didn’t want this year to be just plain old posters. The posters they have recently hung around the school have been on black paper with leaves glued to them and gold paint, which is not something the Southeast Halls sees everyday. They are even changing it up with homecoming itself. On Homecoming night, Knights can look forward to bottled water and glow sticks.
“The commitment is basically coming up with new ideas and reaching our target market which is mainly upperclassmen and if we are behind, come in after school,” Marsh said.
Everything in homecoming is planned by students, via Student Council. When you hear on the announcements about homecoming or see posters in the hallways, that’s all done behind the scenes by the advertising committee. It doesn’t come easy. They make up a three week plan of advertising, but first begin with everything they can think of and weigh the pros and cons to make final decisions on what advertisements they will do. This is all done within the time frame of school starting and leading up to the day of homecoming, October 7.
“It’s gonna be lit,” said Marsh.
She is looking forward to the turnout and hopes everyone comes to see the Autumn Lights October 7.
