When students hear “varsity,” they may think the teams would be comprised of upperclassmen, but Freshman Aislyn Mayse goes against that thinking. Mayse is the only freshman on the Varsity Volleyball team.
“It’s not much different, they treat me the same,” said Mayse.
She may be the only freshman on the team, but she has the respect of her other teammates. According to Mayse her teammates don’t treat her like she’s “the freshman,” but instead include her and offer her support as one of the team. As a member of the varsity team Mayse gets to experience more opportunities than she would on the freshman team.
“It’s fun, I get to open up to a lot more things,” said Mayse.
Mayse hopes to go to her first state volleyball game as a freshman. Mayse and the varsity team have been working hard to win their games so they can make that dream become a reality. The Knights have been working hard to get to state with their current record being 6-4.
“Westside is a really good team, if we just play how we play we can beat them,” said Mayse before her match with Westside high school. The team won all three of its matches against Westside. The varsity volleyball team will be going up against Fremont at their next home game on Tuesday Sept. 27 .
