“My cousin died in a car accident when he was 17 a few years ago and it changed how I look at life,” said Elijah Ackerman (9). “He was the one drinking and he swerved off the road and hit a ditch — he didn’t have his seatbelt on either — and he went through the windshield and hit his head on a tree and died there. I just took life more carefully [since.] I make smarter choices than I usually do. I’m not going to drink and drive.”
