Junior Kaitlyn Cook’s passion for softball has helped her find a supportive community and team within Lincoln Southeast.
“The happiest moment would be accomplishing my goals within softball, and coming to high school was a big, happier change from middle school,” said Cook. “It was nice to broaden my friend range. The hardest part was opening up more and not worrying much about other people, what their opinions were and doing your own thing.”
Transitioning from middle school hasn’t been the only difficulty in Cook’s life. She has found that plans don’t always pan out, but in the end, she has people to support her along the way.
“[It’s hard to] be confident with myself when there is multiple setbacks with sports and friends, like losing friends,” said Cook. “My mom and dad have been the most important people in my life because they have always pushed me and been there for me through my softball journey.”
Cook has had a successful high school career so far.
“I would like to be remembered by being there, having a smile on [my] face, not letting things affect me,” said Cook. “I’m proudest of my goals I’ve accomplished sport wise, having the title of a leader with my friends on and off the field, and having that sense of pride.”
Cook enjoys playing softball and being there for her team. She is a great leader for others, and does her best everyday to be a role model for others.
“Incoming freshman or anyone, it’s really not a huge difference staying true [to yourself.] You don’t have to be super involved with everyone but expand,” said Cook. “Taking risks, trying new things is a big part of high school, and figuring out what you like to do as an individual [is important.]”
