LSE seniors joined students from across the U.S. this week for their Senior Recognition Day, which honors those seniors who have received awards or scholarships for their hard work. LSE’s recognition day took place on May 17th in the Prasch Activities Center and many students received different awards — from departmental awards, president’s awards, athletics and many others. Many Southeast students were awarded multiple awards or scholarships. Sydney Long was just one of the many seniors who received multiple awards on Wednesday.
Long received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, Business Awards for DECA and Junior Achievement Business Economics scholarship, VFW scholarship, Future Youth Award and many more. Long was recently announced as a member the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cheer Team. She is looking forward to be cheering on the collegiate level.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to be a Husker Cheerleader. I am also looking forward to the new business school and all the networking opportunities I will have.”
Some tips Long has for junior are to “apply for scholarships, It’s lengthy, time-consuming, but worth it in the end. If you fit the criteria do it.”
Long started freshman year at southeast in 2013 and has been involved in so much since starting here. She’s been a member of DECA, the Shirettes Dance Team, Student Council and Varsity tennis. “I found myself and who I am today through these activities that Southeast High School, I know my countless hours of hard work paid off and I couldn’t be more excited to walk the stage and give a commencement speech on Graduation Day.”
Long will be one of three students who will be speaking at graduation and she will continue her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, double majoring in Marketing and Hospitality, Restaurant and tourism management.
