There’s nothing better than starting off the football season with a Knights 37-0 win. Seacrest Field hosted the first Friday night lights of the year, with Southeast taking on the Lincoln Northeast Rockets. The Knights showed their dominance early in the first half, making it a 20-0 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.
“They were excited to play, said head coach Ryan Gottula They’ve been practicing, some of these guys have been putting in a lot of work since last November, and this summer, so they were excited to play a game.”
Coach Gottula has been the head coach at LSE since 2011, which followed his assistant coaching career for the Knights that began in 2009. He thinks that the team’s first game performance was great, but as always, there can be a few things to improve upon.
“We did have to replace a number of starters,” said Gottula. “For example, we lost all of our starters from last year at the wide receiver position, so we had all new players there. [I’m] really proud of those guys and what they were able to get done for us in their first game.”
This was only game one of ten for regular season games, so Gottula has faith that the team will continue to improve.
“These guys have a great mentality, and they know that, so they’ll continue to get better every week,” said Gottula.
Be sure to come support the Knights next Friday at Seacrest for the 4:30 game against LSE rival Southwest!
