LSE had a photography club once. This club focused on what makes a good photograph and how to capture the story and the essence of a photo. Unfortunately, those photography lovers had to put on their lens caps and pack up their camera bags as the club disbanded a couple years ago.
But this year, Photography Club is back and better than ever. Senior Grace Hendricks and junior Sarah Al-Hilfy Leon decided last spring that they wanted to bring back photography club to Southeast again. Hendricks and Al-Hilfy Leon enlisted the help of Mrs. Buhrman, the photography and graphic design teacher.
“We started [photography club] this year to advance our understanding and improve the ways we take a photo,” said Al-Hilfy Leon. “[We want to] take it from being a snapshot to being a work of art.”
In this club, you will get to use professional cameras and get feedback on your work. You will produce an art portfolio of your best work. If you pursue a future in photography, that portfolio may even be used by prospective colleges.
But why join? This new photography club is meant to help you pursue a career in photography or, if you want, you could join it to make your Instagram feed look better. This club will be able to help you look at photography in a different way that you’ve never seen before. They will have local professional photographers come and talk to the club, and mini-photoshop lessons. You will also get to go on field trips around Lincoln to hone your photographic abilities.
Al-Hilfy Leon looks forward to this new club, saying,“I love photography and I’m always thinking of news ways to help people out with their own photography as well as mine. So this is a great opportunity to do both … this is a perfect way to incorporate photography in my life without having to take the class.”
There are no requirements for Photography Club except, of course, a love for photography!
Photography club will meet in D111 during 2nd period on club days and every second and fourth Thursday after school at 3:15. The first meeting of the Photography Club is Sept. 5.
