Ryan McGill, a second year industrial technology teacher, loves what he does. “My favorite subject [in high school] was Industrial Technology, specifically woods classes. Now I teach Woods, Construction, and Robotics, so I get to teach what was my favorite class.”
He is originally from Seward, Nebraska and enjoys hunting, fishing, hanging out with friends and family, and going to Husker football games in his free time.
Mr. McGill said, “My favorite parts [about teaching] are just getting to work with the students everyday. They always have something to bring to the table. I just [enjoy] being able to make a difference in some of those kids’ lives and building relationships with the students, [along with] teaching them.”
McGill’s Woods teacher always told him that he’d make a good Woods teacher himself, but McGill never took the recommendation under consideration until he went back to the school during college and shadowed his old teacher. At first he wasn’t wanting to be a teacher because he had always pictured himself having a very high paying job. However, he quickly found some good advice.
“Put the money aside, do what you love, and you’ll be happy… if you love what you do it doesn’t feel like you’re going to work everyday.”
