Fall athletes find ways to stay busy during the off-season

As the Fall Sports season comes to an end, many athletes find gaps in their schedule that had been previously filled with exercise, practice and sporting events. During this time, fall athletes may experience something previously unavailable to them — free time and, perhaps, boredom. So how do athletes, many of whom will try out for a winter sport, stay busy in the weeks between seasons?
Freshman cross-country runner Marshall Lanka has some ideas of what to do during the offseason. “I plan on doing the winter conditioning for cross country,” said Lanka. “I plan on also doing the one-act.”
Lanka also offered some advice on how to fight boredom in the off-season: “Find something [to] do, do what [you] enjoy and just keep on doing it. If [you] like reading, then just read.”.
Sophomore football player Isaac Gifford also plans to stay busy in the next couple weeks.. “I’m gonna work out, get ready for basketball, and during the off-season – get better,” said Gifford.
Like Lanka, Gifford also has some advice for dealing with boredom: “If you’re bored, get to work,” said Gifford. “If you’ve got time off you should be doing something.”
Whatever you do when not doing your sport, try to enjoy yourself. Whether that be playing games, exercising, getting better for when the sports season starts up again, applying for the one-act, going out with your friends to get a sandwich. Maybe consider going into a different sport, like basketball.
