This year, homecoming seemed to be a bigger hit than it ever had before. At least this was the case for several seniors, including Pharna Chuol.
After all the uproar about such a great DJ and fun music, Chuol wanted to do it all over again. After talking to her friends from other local high schools and hearing about how ‘lame’ their homecoming dances were, she decided to make sure that they got the homecoming they deserved. Not only was this for her friends, she also had another inspiration – service.
“I’m always getting involved,” said Chuol. “I love to serve. And so I’ve officially decided that with all the proceeds from the party, I’m hoping to serve a family or two for Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
In our community this year, many families won’t be able afford a Thanksgiving dinner, and many children and teens won’t get holiday gifts. Chuol recognizes this need, and wants to impact at least one family this holiday season.
“While I was pondering what the money would go to, someone brought this idea to me,” Chuol said. “I kept thinking to myself, ‘oh my these are all good ideas and so after about a week of thinking about it, I’m going to try to support a family for [the holidays]”
The party will commence on Nov. 4 from 8 to 11 p.m. at ‘The Space” on 56th and Old Cheney. Tickets will continue to be sold this week for $10, but will be available at the door as well.
