On Oct. 26, the Lady Knights competed in the Heartland Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship against Lincoln Southwest at Lincoln Northeast High School. Although they lost the game in three sets – going 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 – they started off each set with a lead.
Melanie Brecka, one of four seniors on the team, said that the team did not play to their full potential: “We did not play our best volleyball. We had moments of really good volleyball but could not string them together. I know that we are such a good team and when we play our game we are a force to be reckoned with. However, tonight things just didn’t seem to click.”
Since the team had played LSW twice before this game, they knew exactly what to work on and expect going into it. “To prepare for this game we did a lot of defensive work to prepare for their hitters and to be ready for their setter,” Brecka said.
Brecka has big volleyball plans prepared for after high school as she plans to play at the next level.. “I am very excited to continue my volleyball career at the University of Missouri- Kansas City.”
However, Brecka isn’t looking forward to the end of this season. “It’s really sad to think
that this is my last time playing in the HAC tournament. As a senior, this is a season of lasts.”
Speaking of lasts, Brecka’s last district games will take place at Millard North High School on November 1st. In order to make it to state, the Lady Knights first have to play Omaha North, then if they win, Millard North, one of the best teams in the state, for the district final. Depending on how districts go and also depending on various other games going on in the state, the Knights could make it to the state tournament which would take place on Nov. 9 – Nov. 11.
Be sure to tell Brecka and all of the Lady Knights good luck, as they prepare for the exciting rest of the season!!
