Walking into high school for the first time is a new and scary experience for any student. For high-achieving freshman Rachel Arens, this was no different.
Arens is a member of both Key Club and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She also plays Volleyball and flute. Arens is also enrolled in all differentiated classes, which she finds herself easily succeeding in.
“Walking into high school taking all diff. classes, I learned that I had to manage my time more, and so I had to stop hanging out with my friends as much. I didn’t want to get myself in a bad situation,” said Arens. “If I don’t do well on something for a class I usually feel really bad about it, so I couldn’t let that happen.”
By the end of the year, Arens hopes to have lettered in Academics and have herself enrolled in some fun and challenging classes for the next year. And as far as the transition from middle school to high school goes, Arens has enjoyed it a lot.
“I really like going to all the fun events like football games and homecoming,” said Arens. “Compared to middle school where there’s literally nothing, it’s a super fun step up.”
Arens also notes that she enjoys that high school is really a place for self-discovery, and because of that, no one really cares to judge you.
“In middle school, there was a lot of people that judged you,” said Arens. “But in high school, as long as you don’t make yourself look super stupid, you’re good.”
Looking to the future, Arens hopes to pursue either leadership in business or teaching, but, like most students, she still remains mostly undecided.
“I like having a structured schedule where I can direct people and make sure they’re doing their jobs the best they can,” said Arens. “It’s best for me if I know exactly what I’m getting into, and I think having that is the best thing for my future.”
