2018 LSE Prom Royalty

Prom is happening at Southeast on Saturday at 9 P.M., an event that has become a huge part of the high school experience and has spawned many traditions.  One of the traditions of prom is to crown two juniors prom king and queen, and the voting for this year’s couple has just wrapped up.

“The voting part is only open to juniors, and at first you had to be nominated by [someone], and if they nominate you, then you’re put into placement for voting,” said Jack Dobson, a junior at LSE who is a nominee for prom king. “Then it’s a vote of whoever’s nominated, and then that cuts down to top ten, and at the end, they’ll have the top three couples.”

The top three couples get to go on the stage at prom, and the winner will be announced there. “[Around] 10:45 at prom, the DJ will just call us up, and then we meet with the lady that’s running it and she tells us,” said Dobson.

Once the prom king and queen are announced, various celebrations will take place.  “They just announce that you’re prom king or queen, and you get to sit in the throne, maybe take a few pictures, and then you get crowned by the previous prom king and queen.  Since they’re seniors now, they come and they crown you,” said Dobson.

To summarize, the titles of prom king and queen will be awarded around 10:45 at prom on Saturday.  While obviously not everyone can win, prom royalty is always fun for those involved, and that doesn’t look to be changing at all this year.
