Humans of LSE: Luke Anderson
October 29, 2018
Between Jazz 1, taking part in LSE’s fall play She Kills Monsters as Orucs, playing in wind ensemble, and singing in Ars Nova, senior Luke Anderson is taking on his second year as a Marching Knights Drum Major.
“I saw drum major as something I could do to take the next step, and try something new, challenge, and push myself to work on my leadership skills and be a more integral part of the ensemble.”
Anderson misses playing with the band the most, but enjoys feeling in control stylistically of how the band plays. He plays piano, ukulele, euphonium, tuba and marched for two years as a trombone.
“The sense of being part of something that’s greater than yourself is really special. And it’s really easy to feel like that in marching band.”
Anderson is planning on studying music education after high school, but for now encourages others to join marching band community.
“Friendships span across the grade lines really easy in marching band because there’s so many people from all grades. I think marching band, especially more so than any other extracurricular activity, is where you can develop those friendships between older and younger students which is really cool.”
