‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’: Will it live up to the hype?

Nolan Hemmett, Staff Writer

With the new “Star Wars” movie quickly approaching on Dec. 20, Aaron Svik, sponsor of “Star Wars” Club at Southeast, is looking forward to the conclusion to the new Disney trilogy.

“The trailers have left a lot of questions on the table that need to be answered in ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’” Svik said.

The past couple of “Star Wars” movies have not been well-received by the public. Rian Johnson’s “The Last Jedi,” was loved by the critics but disliked by a majority of fans.

“It wasn’t as great as I thought it would be, but it was good. It left a lot of loose ends, I think that they’re going to hopefully tie up in this movie,” Svik said.

The release of the second trailer last month definitely gave the public a lot to look at with the return of Emperor Palpatine and what looks like the final showdown between Rey and Kylo Ren.

There is a lot to be excited about, but that’s what is making the public nervous. The pressure for this movie to succeed with the public is arguably at a peak.

“I think Disney has done as best as they probably could with the franchise. Well, I mean everyone could be better, but I think they have pushed things too far in some areas, but we have been pretty lucky that we’ve had a new movie every year so things don’t get too boring,” Svik said.

With the return of the well-respected reputation of J.J. Abrams, there is definitely a bit of a cushion to “Star Wars” fans. But there’s only one way to find out and that’s to see it ourselves and see if it’s going to live up to the hype.
