Senior Cameron Wesche knows this all too well as he balances classes like AP World History, AP Seminar, AP Research and AP Calculus. Wesche is also a very involved athlete competing in cross country and playing baseball during the spring and summer seasons.
Wesche knows he wouldn’t be able to handle the demands of a student athlete on his own. He credits his support system as one of the main reasons for the many successes of his life to this point. The homework often piles up and his parents help him navigate the homework and difficult classwork that Wesche is taking.
“My parents have been very helpful in raising me and showing me what is right and what isn’t,” Wesche said. “And then I think just like seeing the people in, like the cross country organizations when I was just beginning and moving my way up.”
A support system takes a vital role in helping create a schedule that someone can accomplish. Wesche has quite the busy schedule but his support system has helped him manage it very well. That being said, his schedule is not always predictable. Without a predictable schedule, it’s sometimes hard to figure when he can get a big assignment done even when he may be out of town for hours on end.
Different sports have different schedules which causes some struggle to fit everything in. For example, Wesche said “baseball is variable” which causes some stress in fitting in homework and in-class assignments.
Without a set in stone schedule, Wesche struggles to keep up with work in difficult classes at LSE and some classes are some of the hardest that LSE has to offer.
Wesche takes a multitude of difficult classes including “AP research, because you’re basically conducting your own research study, which isn’t easy,”
Even though these classes may cause some struggles, Wesche knows that it will all be worth it in the end. Taking these classes now will help him in the future and help reduce costs for college. Even though the classes may be difficult, the money saved and availability in college is well worth the stress of an AP class.
“Knowing that I can pay about $100 now to take a class and a test instead of paying 1000s of dollars next year is, I think that’s worth it to me,” Wesche said.
Wesche has quite a full schedule with a lot of activities and homework. This has set him up for success in his future and helped him get to his goal of going to college.
“Also trying to get enough sleep every night so that I’m able to perform at my highest capabilities, and then also having time to work on homework, being a student athlete isn’t easy at all,” Wesche said.
