The bell rings and students spill out of the doors to go to lunch, upperclassmen choose between the restaurants close to southeast, debating between orange chicken from Rolling Wok or a double steakburger from Freddy’s. Not every student can go out to eat at lunch, but they still manage to eat out for dinner at their favorite places. For many students, fast food is a part of their daily lives.
In a survey of 136 LSE students,20.9 percent said they went out to McDonald’s, while 18.7 percent of students said they went to Freddy’s. The rest of the students chose a variety of places, ranging from Raising Cane’s to Amigos.
Many students reported that the average wait time is five to 10 minutes. However, some answers ranged as high as 30 minutes, while others as short as three minutes. Some also claimed the wait times differed depending on which fast food place they went to. For example, places like McDonald’s were considered faster compared to places like Culver’s and Wendy’s.
Southeast students not only frequent the same places, but they typically order the same meal every time.
“[I] usually get a chicken sandwich and fries no matter where I’m going,” the student said.
While another student specifically named what they get at Sonic.
“I usually get a bacon breakfast burrito combo with groovy fries, groovy sauce, and a route 44 grape slushie.”
Two Southeast students, Isaiah Baruth (11) and Gus Floro (12) go out to eat often. Baruth eats out at lunch, frequenting places like McDonald’s, Freddys and even Raising Cane’s. He says that a flexible 6th or 7th period teacher is handy in case he comes back late or eats in class.
Floro works at Braeda, and he eats there every day.
“I usually get a steak burrito at Chipotle if I go somewhere else, but I probably eat the chicken from Braeda every day,” Floro said.
Every student is different, depending on their lifestyle, job or even age.
No matter what your order is, fast food is quick, easy and cheap, and that’s a fact. Next time you are looking for a new place to try, your fellow classmates suggest Wingstop or Chipotle.
