For many students, getting recruited by a college for the sport you play is a lifelong dream, and for 12 LSE seniors, yesterday was signing day. The big question is, how do you get recruited, and how do you chose where to go? Maria Devries, a senior point guard for the girls varsity basketball team, is among the signees. She signed with Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she will also be studying nursing.
“I have been doing workouts with the assistant coach at Wesleyan for two years, and I was getting offers at other places but ultimately it came down to the school that had nursing for me, and I really love the coaches,” said Devries.
Although Devries was the only Southeast girls basketball player signing in Prasch on Tuesday, her coaches Kara Graham and Heather Leader both came to support along with many family members and friends.
“My parents and coaches in the past [have kept me motivated] … If you have a goal in life work hard for it and you will achieve it.”
Devries has been playing basketball since she was ten, and has always wanted to play in college. She is a great example of how hard work and dedication pay off in sports and in education.
Congratulations to Devries and Nash and all of the LSE signees!
