A staple of the emergence of the winter sport season is the Knight Zone t-shirts that can be found and bought for $1 in upper commons during all three lunches. The making of these t-shirts has been happening thanks to Southeast’s Student Council (Stuco) for many years and counting.
Junior Maggie Stoltenberg, a longstanding member of Stuco, says the main reason they sell the Knight Zone t-shirts is so every student has the option to buy one. “Stuco members are assigned to call businesses to ask them if they can donate money, and that’s how we pay for the shirts.”
Stoltenberg says the title “Knight Zone” comes from a committee on student council, established in 1952, where all of the planning occurs. On this committee, Stuco does a lot more behind the scenes to make the Knight Zone t-shirts available for students, like designing the t-shirts themselves.
“This year a freshman by the name of Elizabeth Herbin designed the shirt,” said Stoltenberg. “Usually we have a few designs and the council votes on their favorite.”
The amount of t-shirts Stuco purchases every year varies depending on the amount of donations from businesses notes Stoltenberg, “None of the money ever goes to waste because we buy as many shirts as possible. This year, it was around 350 in total.”
Be sure to pick up your Knight Zone t-shirt in upper commons before they sell out!
