We’re a good way into the second quarter and the end of the semester draws nearer and nearer. With the arrival of the new semester, comes a new opportunity for students to sign up for clubs, an opportunity you may want to take advantage of.
Future Business Leaders of America, better known as FBLA, requires that you are, or have been, enrolled in any business or technology course. FBLA offers many fun activities, like the blood drive and an upcoming sock drive, that allow students to feel involved in their community.
Business teacher and club sponsor Jennifer Clark gives some reasons to join FBLA, “[FBLA] gives you a good amount of business knowledge [and] you get to see what goes on in your community and help out.”
She also tacked on another bonus, this time with regards to joining a club in general: “Clubs give you an opportunity to meet people outside of Lincoln.”
Along with being involved in your community, clubs provide an opportunity to meet new friends. If there’s any basis to form friendships on, common interest may be one of the best, and that’s what clubs are all about.
“I have a lot of friends that I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t join [a club],” said senior Kaylin Anderson, a member of the Empty Bowls Pottery Club, which focuses on learning and improving pottery skills. The bowls created by the club will go on to a fundraiser to benefit the Lincoln Food Bank.
So, joining a club comes with a few benefits. If you’ve never thought of joining a club, maybe consider joining one next semester by checking the school’s website in the first few weeks of the new semester and keeping your ears open during the announcements.
