The squeaking of basketball shoes has returned to the gyms of LSE as basketball teams begin their seasons.. With almost a completely new and young coaching staff, including Head Coach Isaiah Dell, the former head coach of Class B Crete High School for five years, as well as Reserve Coach Tucker Epp and Freshman Coach Dion Gaston, the Girls Basketball teams looks to start new traditions. That leaves only two returning coaches: Junior Varsity Coach Breanna Hagedorn and Assistant Varsity Coach Taylor Boshart.

The Knights came off of a 9-15 season last year and a fairly small varsity roster of only eight players. This year the varsity team has a full roster of 14, including one sophomore, three juniors and nine seniors.

Coach Dell has high hopes for this season. “I’m excited to see how we do, we have nine seniors, so I obviously want to send them off on a good note. We have a lot of talent and experience. We also got a transfer into the mix that will help us out a lot, so this season will be a lot of fun.”

With an upperclassmen-led team, the Knights are experienced and ready to make some noise. It’s going to be difficult to score against the Knights this season, as defense is their strength. The players can expect a lot of conditioning and defensive drills in practice to make the team unstoppable.

“Our strengths are that we are a drive-first team. Defensively we will be pretty good and we have a lot of experience. Our weaknesses is our height, we also need to improve on our shooting,” Coach Dell said. “The main goal of this season is to get better everyday and control what we can control.”
