Welcome to Southeast’s pep rally! Brought to you by Cheer and the Shirettes.
Each quarter Southeast has a pep rally, and without the students planning, none of them would happen. Every quarter one of two groups runs the show, Cheer doing all except the winter rally, which the Shirettes gladly take charge of.
Cheer captain Norine Kingery says it can be, “a little bit of a process.” Luckily cheer coach Ms. TeKolste helps them by giving a rough layout of what should be included in the agenda. Once they know what’s needed, they can start contacting other groups to see if they are participating and begin brainstorming what they might say for each group.
Then comes the process of getting the exact script approved. Each transition in the plan needs to be approved not only by their coach first, but also by the principal, the spirit squad director, and other teachers involved. After picking the games, getting activities from other groups, and the a-okay from administration, they can get the supplies and start working on decorations.
With the next pep rally less than a week away, December 5th, planning has already started. Luckily it only takes a week to plan it, get it approved, and create the decorations. Shirette captain Peyton Rhode says her favorite part is being the MC, “Getting to talk in front of the school is really fun.”
